MURDER IN GROSSE POINTE PARK: Privilege, Adultery, and the Killing of Jane Bashara

In a ritzy Detroit suburb, Jane Bashara's husband, Bob, has been charged in her January 2012 homicide.

The body was lying across the back seat, face down tightly against the passenger side door of the Mercedes SUV, her legs pushed onto the floor. The woman's windpipe was crushed, and her face was a bloody mask, covered with welts, wounds and bruises. Her fingernails, manicured just days before, were torn off in a battle with the person who murdered her. She was wearing black stretch pants, a dark green blouse and had bare feet. A pair of slippers had fallen off her feet and come to rest just next to them.

She was 56 years old and had started a post-retirement job in the fall with KEMA Services, a public utility consultancy.

She had come home, dropped her cell phone and purse down, turned on the TV. She was alone in the house. Or was she?
